Changing Indian:  Flying Officer Avani Chaturvedi has created history by becoming the first Indian woman to undertake a solo flight

In a proud and historic moment, Fg Offr Avani Chaturvedi on Monday became the first Indian Woman to undertake a solo flight of a fighter aircraft.

The flying officer took to the skies on a solo sortie aboard a MiG-21 Bison.

Chaturvedi, along with two of her cohort, had been inducted into the Indian Air Force’s fighter squadron in June 2016 and were commissioned by Manohar Parrikar, who was then the Defence Minister of India.

An engineering graduate, Chaturvedi had passed out of the Air Force Academy in Dundigal in 2016, going on to undertake her Stage 3 training in Karnataka’s Bidar.
